This project was on a 200-year old cottage in a conservation area. The owners needed extra space. Our brief was to provide this while maintaining the character of the cottage and adhering to local planning regulations.

Original cottageAfter extensionThe additional space and feeling of even more space was achieved by removing the fireplaces and expanding the kitchen by adding a ground-floor rear extension. The extension could have been carried out through the use of permitted development, but the removal of the chimney breasts needed planning permission and a Party Wall Award. We decided to apply for full planning permission for the whole project and dealt with all Building Control and Water Board issues on behalf of the client.

With the benefit of full planning permission we were able to maximisethe amount of space and light possible in an east-facing single-floor extension.
